Plastic Drinking Straws - proposed ban April 2020

Quick Milk Magic Sippers & the ban on Plastic Drinking Straws scheduled for April 2020

Following the publication of the Governments response to:

“Consultation on proposals to ban the distribution and/or sale of plastic straws, plastic- stemmed cotton buds and plastic drink stirrers in England”

it has been announced that a ban on plastic straws will be effective from April 2020 - with exemptions.

We are delighted to confirm that the Quick Milk Magic Sippers are exempted from the ban and as such are not affected and will remain freely available.

Grounds for our exemption are detailed in point 6.19

6.19 Plastic straws used for “the containment, protection, handling, delivery and presentation of goods” under Article 3 of Directive 94/62/EC (Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive), fall under the scope of this Directive and as such will be treated as packaging and are therefore exempted from this ban. Such packaging is regulated through other mechanisms, and our Resources and Waste Strategy sets out further information on our policy intentions in this area.

Whilst we are delighted to be exempted from this ban, we are not complacent - as a company we have been and will continue to research and trial viable alternatives for use in the long term.
